As President of AAPS, it is my great honor to congratulate you for receiving
The AAPS Distinguished Pharmaceutical Scientist Award. This is the highest,
most prestigious award given by the association to a pharmaceutical scientist.
The Award recognizes your accomplishments, contributions and impact in
the field of pharmaceutical sciences and technologies.
In addition, as Scientific secretary of FIP, I am very pleased to see that
Dr. Yuichi Sugiyama is also listed in The Institute of Scientific Information
(ISI) as a highly cited scientist in the world.
Professor Yuichi Sugiyama is a world leader in pharmaceutical sciences,
focusing on how drugs behave in the body and how they exert their effects,
predicting in vivo drug disposition from in vitro biochemical data on metabolism,
binding and transport, and on the role of transporters in drug disposition,
again integrating in vitro data with in vivo pharmacokinetic models. He
has cloned several renal and hepatic transporters and has characterized
their substrate specificity.
